When you are feeling like you need to go somewhere outside of your friends or family, you may be wondering what type of support to be looking for. Do you look for a life coach, CBT, online self-help programs, apps - it can be a minefield.Person centred counselling is somewhere to go where there is a safe space, to explore and process your feelings.

What person-centred counselling is not

You won’t be given advice, maybe not even strategies or tools (sometimes depending on the moadily or counselor this may be incorporated), but as its root, it's where you can sit in relationship with another person, to jointly create a space to explore emotions and feelings you may be scared of, you may not understand, you may want to figure out.

What person-centred counselling is

A person centred counselor will help you to hear your own voice, they will reflect the essence of what you are saying. They will use words or feelings they hear, and say them back to you, so you can see what impact it has hearing your thoughts outside of your own head. They will bring their real selves into the room, but completely for your benefit. They will use what they notice, hear and recognise and share what they see. This insight may be helpful to help understand yourself- but it is all you. You are the one finding the answers, you are the one who knows you, who you have potential to be.

You may not feel that you are in a position where you feel empowered to be who you are, but the aim in this counseling relationship, is that you are met with an honesty in who you are, you will be received with respect and kindness. The hope and belief is that if you can take that step to voice how you feel, through the process, you can make sense of it yourself.
